In the countryside, far far away

My first memory of Star Wars was when my uncle, gave me ‘A New Hope’ on VHS, for those younger readers out there, VHS was the 90s equivalent to Blu Rays today!

From that moment on I was in love with the Star Wars universe and to this date, it is one of my favourite film franchises of all time. To be more precise, ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ is my all-time favourite in the franchise.

Star Wars Video Games

Games from the Star Wars Universe, at least the ones I have currently played, I have enjoyed. The first Stars Wars game I played was at a family friend’s house, ‘Rebel assault,’ on his PS1 which he let me borrow for a few weeks, after refusing to stop playing it at the time and asking my parents just to stay for a few more minutes!

Over the years, we have been pretty lucky with the number of good Star Wars games, from Episode 1 on the PS1, to battlefront and KOTOR on PC.

One of the first games I had played on the PC was the original Star Wars Battlefront, at the time it was the closest you could get to playing out key moments from the films. All from fighting with the Ewoks on Endor to tripping up AT&T’s on Hoth, I know awesome, right?

Fast Forward a little over 10 years

2017, the year the Nintendo Switch was launched, little did I know what would be coming over these next few years. Spoiler, a lot of good games! and I would be tempted to say a console shaping up to be my all-time favourite.

Now I could talk for several hours and over many posts about the Switch but I will save that for a later date, today is all about going back to play a classic game, in all of the Switch’s portable goodness.

First Person Star Wars Done Right…

I first stumbled across Republic Commando, when it was recommended by a friend, back in a time where the internet was still a young child, and finding out about video games all came from speaking with your friends at school.

Republic Commando, on the Switch, as far as I can tell, is untouched from the original and although I would have loved to see a full remake, the game still stands strong today.

If like me, you have played and enjoyed the original, you have more than likely already picked this up and if not, why? You can now play Republic Commando, anywhere in the palm of your hands!

For those new to Republic Commando, and are Star Wars fans, I would recommend giving it a go, as long as you remember that this game was released back in 2005, coming out for the original Xbox and PC.

The graphics have aged, compared to the range of modern games we are used to today, and the gameplay, at times, is not the smoothest. That being said, this, for me, is still a must play game for any Switch owners who are Star Wars fans.

If you do want to know more, there are plenty of great reviews out there including Nintendo Life and IGN, if you are looking specifically for a review.

For me, this still stands out as being one of my favourite Star Wars games, alongside the original battlefront games and Episode 1 on the PS1.

Let me know what you think!
